CALDENDARS
The Aztecs used two calendars, one was used for tracking religious ceremonies and festivals and the calendar was called tonalpohualli this means day count. This was very important to the Aztecs as it kept the universe in balance and divided time equally between the different gods. This calendar has 260 days. The other calendar was to track time it was called Xiuhpohualli or other ways known as solar year. It had 365 days divided up into 18 months of 20 days per month. This left with 5 days over and they were considered unlucky days. Every 52 years both calendars would start on the same day. The Aztecs were afraid that the world would end on this day and they performed the new fire ceremony on this day.
