THEIR LANGUAGE AND THEIR GLYPHS
The Aztecs did not have an alphabet so instead they used small pictures called glyphs, these were often coloured to add more meaning to the glyph. An example is that the colour of a glyph used to show someones name told their rank. The name of the rulers rank always contained turquoise They would use long sheets of animal skin or plant fibers as their paper.
Aztec Language. The Aztecs spoke Nahuatl and in some
parts of Mexico the language is still used. Languages similar to the Aztec
language have been around in the Central area of Mexico for more than 1400
years. Most people that spoke Nahuatl started to gain power and it in 1000AD,
most people who spoke Nutuahl were the denominating people in Central Mexico.
By the time of 1500’s, Nahuatl became the most important language in
Mesoamerican. This language can still be heard around the Western United States
and Mexico. Words from Nahuatl are used
in english today such as coyote, avocado, chili and chocolate.
